Got Inner Contradictions and Afflictions?
February 4, 2005
We all have them … inner contradictions and afflictions. Consciously or unconsciously we don’t accept parts of ourselves. That’s why in EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) we start with the Setup and use an affirmation or acceptance phrase such as:
“I deeply and completely accept myself.”
Or, “I love myself.”
Or, “I’m a cool kid.”
Or, “I’m an awesome person.”
Or whatever accepting affirmation is most meaningful.
The acceptance phrase instills a positive affirmation in us. After all, we are who we are right now, including our inner contradictions and afflictions.
Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun with this limerick.

Listen up friend.
Accept yourself.
When people say you’re …
too young or too old,
too shy or too bold,
too short or too tall,
too big or too small,
too fat or too thin,
too out or too in,
too dark or too light,
too left or too right,
too normal or too crazy,
too busy or too lazy,
too kind or too cruel,
too hot or too cool,
too funny or too grave,
too fearful or too brave,
too quiet or too loud,
too humble or too proud,
too dumb or too bright,
too heavy or too light,
too rich or too poor,
too dirty or too pure,
too healthy or too sick,
too slow or too quick,
too good or too bad,
too calm or too mad,
too right or too wrong,
too weak or too strong,
too round or too flat,
too this or too that …
Then you just say–
Listen up, sir.
Listen up mam.
I’m just doin’ the best that I can.
I’m human.
I am what I am.
I’ve got contradictions and afflictions.
I accept myself.
Got contradictions and afflictions.
I accept myself.
Yeh.
