Learning the ABCs of EFT

February 2, 2005

One of best things about EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is that anyone can learn the method. EFT is a superb self-help, self-development and peak performance tool for exploring a variety of personal issues. So where do you start if you want to learn EFT? Of course, for serious psychological or medical issues, you’ll want to seek treatment from a licensed therapist, doctor or other healing professional.

If you’re intent on learning EFT in-depth, the best way is to go directly to Gary Craig’s Website. There are a variety of video sets from basic to advanced, available in CD or DVD format. Check the “Learn EFT” area. The videos are based on live seminars and workshops. One of the advantages of learning from videos is that you can go at your own pace and the videos are edited to include the essential information.

If you’re simply curious about EFT or just want to learn it for yourself, I recommend a different route. First, download the Xlint Free Stuff on this blog. You’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader. It’s free too. Dr. Joseph Mercola offers an EFT manual. Check out our EFT Shortcut Card (PDF). See Joseph Bennette’s EFT Protocol sheet. Visit Leon Jay’s or Andy Mason’s Web pages. Maryam Webster has a nice diagram and instructions.

After that, you might check out a couple of Websites that will detail the method both visually and with audio: Joan Sotkin and Rick Wilkes. Julie Thompson has a very nice EFT overview presentation (PDF). Also, Carol Tuttle has a streaming video area to learn EFT. You’ll need a hi-speed Internet connection.

Note that when you visit the sites, some people will teach you the classic EFT “recipe.” Others will show you the EFT Shortcut method. Plus, there will be variations in people’s styles of doing EFT.

For you bookworms, here’s a list of recommended books. Ultimately, simply reading about EFT isn’t going to give you a good enough understanding of how it works. You’ll need to see and experience how someone proficient in EFT does it. Patricia Carrington, Ph.D., offers a video set, titled Introduction to EFT Videotapes & e-Book that will get you off to a good start. You’ll want to learn her “Choices” method.

Still want to learn more? Then you’re ready to go to Gary Craig’s Website and buy a set of videos. For the layperson, I recommend you do that last because there are several hours of video to view in each set. The videos are an excellent value. You need to be committed to digging in to learn more about EFT and ready to invest time in viewing the videos.

What about live seminars or workshops? If you learn best from a live event, that’s fine too. I’d still recommend starting in the ways mentioned above. Here are some of the approved EFT and alternative EFT live workshops available. Finally, another complementary way to learn EFT is by doing it with an EFT practitioner. Enjoy learning EFT. You’ll have a lifelong tool to use.

Thanks so much for listing my Thriving Now newsletter and website here. One of the wonderful aspects of EFT is the way we collaborate to help both develop and disseminate good information about how to learn EFT, teach EFT, and use EFT for achieving emotional freedom. –Rick Wilkes, http://www.thrivingnow.com

Hi, I am a complete newbie to Emotional Freedom Techniques but would love to share one of my first EFT Miracles with everyone. My husband has been susceptible to Arthritis in his fingers over the years which gets worse during the colder months I just recently came across Gary Craig’s wonderful EFT Manual when my husband started complaining about the swelling and pain in his index finger. I asked him if he’d like to try EFT on it and with a quizzical look he decided why not. We did it together that night with the set up of “Even though I have this pain in my finger”… He looked at me in amazement as he exclaimed that the pain had completely dissipated, I think his comment was is this Witchcraft?

The next day he said that although the pain was gone he could still feel the discomfort of the swelling in his knuckle, so that night we did it again except that we did it with the set up phrase” Even though I have this swelling in my finger”… It wasn’t until the next day that he came running in to tell me that the swelling was completely gone. What can I say except Wow! and that my husband is now reading the EFT Manual himself and he said his next project will be his big fear of Heights and Spiders.
I want to say the biggest thank you for this wonderful tool, I’ve even created a website; http://www.eft-emotionalfreedomtechnique.com because I want more than anything to help spread the word of this amazing technique to the rest of the world.
