Get Unstuck by Playing with Opposites

EFT is a marvelous technique. It is powerful and effective for resolving many serious issues. EFT is also handy for dealing with everyday stuff that comes up. Often, it helps to approach things that bother you with a playful mindset instead of a serious one. Use EFT to play with polarities. When we feel stuck it’s usually because we’re polarized between two opposites.
For example, suppose you want to change jobs. Part of you wants to and part of you doesn’t.
One way people handle changing jobs is to make a list of the advantages and disadvantages, the pros and cons. Not a bad start. And, the problem is that this is a logical approach that doesn’t get at the underlying emotional reasons. Using EFT and tapping on opposites can be quite valuable to help you neutralize stuck feelings or help clarify what you want to do.
So let’s go with the example of changing jobs. You’d do the Setup phrase:
Even though I WANT to change jobs, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Tap a few rounds of EFT. While continuously tapping, say whatever comes up for you WANTING to change jobs.
Example:
Even though I want to change jobs because …
I can make more money elsewhere,
and I want new challenges,
and I want a boss that respects and appreciates me,
and I want to work closer to home,
and I want to do what I love doing,
and I want a different career path … etc.
Now, let’s switch to the opposite. Do the Setup with a phrase like
Even though I DON’T WANT to change jobs, I deeply and completely accept myself.
Tap a few more rounds of EFT. While continuously tapping, say whatever comes up for you NOT WANTING to change jobs.
Even though I don’t want to change jobs because …
I’m making a good salary,
and I don’t want to face uncertainly,
and I don’t like change,
and this job is easy for me,
and I like security,
and I don’t want to tell my family,
and I don’t believe I can have the job I want anyway … etc.
You get the idea. Tap on the opposites and discover if you feel less stuck. Again, do it in a playful way because you’ll be more relaxed about it.
Here are ideas for some others things you can tap on opposites for neutralizing polarities:
- Starting or not starting your own business
- Taking a risk and not taking a risk
- Moving or not moving somewhere
- Having enough and not having enough time to get things done
- Staying or not staying in a relationship
- Having enough and not having enough money
- Goal setting and not goal setting
- Feeling successful and not successful
What other polarities or opposites would you like to play around with? Have fun.
