Laughter is the Best Elixir

March 28, 2005

It’s time to get serious about laughter, especially when it comes to your health. A good belly laugh can help keep the doctor away. Laughter is a spontaneous way of releasing emotions. There’s an inner relief. When you laugh, you feel lighter and naturally relaxed. Here’s the problem. According to Discovery Health, when a child gets to nursery school, he or she laughs about 300 times a day. In contrast, adults laugh an average of 17 times a day. Adults need to kick up their laugh meter.

Giant 757 Pound Gentle Man Singer

March 23, 2005

Odds are, you’ve heard the song. Either on the television show ER. Or at the movies viewing–You’ve Got Mail, Meet Joe Black, Finding Forrester or 50 First Dates. It’s a song medley of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World. This mellow, uplifting rendition is by the late Hawaiian singer, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. People affectionately called him “IZ.” He died at 38 years old from respiratory health problems attributed to his obesity. At one time, his weight ballooned up to 757 pounds. Might EFT help people with obesity and weight issues?

You’re Fired (or You’re Freed?)

March 20, 2005

“You’re fired.” Billionaire Donald Trump has made the phrase famous in his TV show, The Apprentice. But, perhaps the king of firing people was actually John Patterson, CEO of NCR Corporation from 1884 to 1921. Supposedly, one-sixth of America’s top executives from 1910 to 1930 were schooled and fired by Patterson. One time, he fired an executive by removing the person’s desk and chair, parking it in front of the company’s factory, having it soaked in kerosene and set on fire. He takes the term, “fired” to the hilt. Even though being fired or laid off can be emotionally traumatic, there’s another way to think about it–”being freed.” Maybe you should celebrate.

EFT is very forgiving, whether you’re concerned about touching the exact EFT points, tapping the correct number of times or saying the right words in the setup affirmation. Don’t sweat it. Or, if you’d prefer to worry about it, tap on one of these phrases …

March 16, 2005

The basic tenet of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. Our bodies respond to the way we think and feel. It’s called the “mind/body connection.” EFT focuses on releasing negative emotions, paving the way for the expression of positive feelings and healing.
